Acacia Prison

Acacia Prison is a male prison east of Perth.

Social visits have been suspended at all prisons, work farms and the Banksia Hill Detention Centre.

The Prison is owned by the Department of Justice which contracts management of the prison to Serco. Acacia's focus is on rehabilitation and it has a number of industries prisoners can work in including metalwork and woodwork.

Visitors may be searched

Visitors may be searched when they enter prison grounds.

This includes the use of drug detection dogs which are used to detect prohibited items and substances. Searches include visitors' cars in the prison car park.

Handheld devices such as metal detectors will be used to ensure that visitors are not attempting to smuggle contraband inside the prison.

The Superintendent is authorised to examine any article in the visitor’s possession, including items of clothing. Where items of clothing are required to be removed for examination, prison officers of the same sex as the visitor will perform the search, or where the visitor is a child it will be a female officer.

No cameras, no drugs, no weapons, no alcohol

To make a booking by phone, call 9573 3300 (press option 1, then option 1 again) Monday to Friday during the following hours:

8.30 am to 11.30 am
12.30 pm to 3.00 pm

Bookings can be made in person at the Visitor's Centre, 7 days a week, during the following hours:

8.30 am to 11.30 am
2.30 pm to 3.00 pm

Visitors are required to produce identification upon arrival at the prison and may have their person or vehicle searched.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, during the following hours:

8.00 am to 9.15 am
9.40 am to 10.55 am
1.00 pm to 2.15 pm
3.00 pm to 4.15 pm

Protection only visits, during the following hours:

Monday 9.40 am to 10.55 am
Saturday 1.00 pm to 2.15 pm
Sunday 8.00 am to 9.15 am

Closed to visitors on Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Visitors should plan to arrive at the prison at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit time for security screening.

The Visitor's Centre is the first building as you walk up from the car park.

Children are welcome to visit the prison. Children under the age of 18 years need to be supervised by an adult at all times.

To book a visit with children please tell the Visitor's Centre when you book the visit.

The visiting area contains a small play area that consists of a television and limited toys.

Visitors may bring essential baby items to visits including:

2 nappies
1 bottle of formula or an empty bottle/baby cup
1 pacifier
1 baby blanket
Medication.

Alternatively, a crèche is available for children under 12 years which is supervised by childcare workers.

Child visit restrictions may apply to some prisoners.

A free bus service is available from Midland train station on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The bus leaves at 7.15 am, 8.45 am and 2.00 pm. Make a reservation when booking.

Acacia Prison is about 30 minutes drive east of Midland.

Parking is available to visitors.

When you come for your visit you will have to make sure you've dressed appropriately.

No ripped or torn clothing
No gang colours or offensive logos
No tight-fitting clothing or lycra
No steel-capped boots
No hi-visibility clothing
No headwear
No smartwatches
No swimwear
No excessive jewellery

Visitors to prison must wear underwear and footwear.

Pants and skirts/dresses should be longer than mid-thigh.

Exemptions for legitimate cultural, religious or medical reasons or at the discretion of the Security Manager.

You will need to put your mobile phone, bags and personal items in a locker at your visit.
