Social visits have been suspended at all prisons, work farms and the Banksia Hill Detention Centre.
The centre is a minimum-security location where female prisoners and their children stay in a community-style setting recognising the diverse needs of women in prison. Boronia prepares women for re-entry into the community by offering meaningful rehabilitation activities and work placements. These are designed to address the unique needs of women prisoners and provide them with practical skills.
Visitors may be searched
Visitors may be searched when they enter prison grounds.
This includes the use of drug detection dogs which are used to detect prohibited items and substances. Searches include visitors' cars in the prison car park.
Handheld devices such as metal detectors will be used to ensure that visitors are not attempting to smuggle contraband inside the prison.
The Superintendent is authorised to examine any article in the visitor’s possession, including items of clothing. Where items of clothing are required to be removed for examination, prison officers of the same sex as the visitor will perform the search, or where the visitor is a child it will be a female officer.

A maximum of 3 adults plus children is allowable per visit.
Special visits will be considered outside these hours in exceptional circumstances.
The visiting centre is at the front desk.
Visitors are required to produce identification upon arrival at the prison and may have their person or vehicle searched.

Visiting with children
Show moreChildren are welcome to visit the prison. Children under the age of 18 years need to be supervised by an adult at all times.
To book a visit with children please tell the Visitor's Centre when you book the visit.
A naturescape playground and toys are available for children to use during visits.

Visitors can catch buses 96, 72, 75, 33 or 34 from Perth Esplanade Bus Port. The bus stops right outside the prison.
Visitors can also catch the Mandurah Line train to Canning Bridge Station and then bus 100 or 998.

It is roughly 15 minutes drive from the Perth CBD, parking is available for visitors.
What to wear to visit
Show moreWhen you come for your visit you will have to make sure you've dressed appropriately.
- No revealing clothing
- No see-through clothing
- No ripped or torn clothing
- No gang colours or offensive logos
- No tight-fitting clothing or lycra
- No steel-capped boots
- No hi-visibility clothing
- No headwear
- No smartwatches
- No swimwear
- No excessive jewellery
Visitors to prison must wear underwear and footwear.
Pants and skirts/dresses should be longer than mid-thigh.
Exemptions for legitimate cultural, religious or medical reasons or at the discretion of the Security Manager.
You will need to put your mobile phone, bags and personal items in a locker at your visit.

Sending money to prisoners
Show moreYou can send a prisoner money by cash or money order.
To send cash, visit the front desk during your visit. The cashier accepts cash only and does not carry change.
The front desk can also accept private cash transfers Saturday and Sunday, during the following hours:
- 9.30 am to 11.30 am
- 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm
