Social visits have been suspended at all prisons, work farms and the Banksia Hill Detention Centre.
Casuarina Prison is the main maximum-security prison for male prisoners in WA. Surrounded by a range of state-of-the-art security devices, the prison has a special unit for intensive, high-security supervision of offenders.
Visitors may be searched
Visitors may be searched when they enter prison grounds.
This includes the use of drug detection dogs which are used to detect prohibited items and substances. Searches include visitors' cars in the prison car park.
Handheld devices such as metal detectors will be used to ensure that visitors are not attempting to smuggle contraband inside the prison.
The Superintendent is authorised to examine any article in the visitor’s possession, including items of clothing. Where items of clothing are required to be removed for examination, prison officers of the same sex as the visitor will perform the search, or where the visitor is a child it will be a female officer.

Bookings must be made 24 hours in advance.
A maximum of 3 adults can visit at a time.
Visitors are required to produce identification upon arrival at the prison and may have their person or vehicle searched.

- 9.15 am to 10.15 am
- 10.30 am to 11.30 am
- 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm
- 2.45 pm to 3.45 pm
- 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
There are no visits on Good Friday and Christmas Day.
Visitors should plan to arrive at the prison at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit time for security screening.
The Visitor's Centre is the first building on the left as you walk up from the car park.
Visiting with children
Show moreChildren are welcome to visit the prison. Children under the age of 18 years need to be supervised by an adult at all times.
To book a visit with children please tell the Visitor's Centre when you book the visit. A maximum of three visitors apply, exceptions will need special approval.
The visiting area contains a small play area, on Saturdays and Sunday a family centre worker will be available to assist supervising.
Child visit restrictions may apply to some prisoners.

Casuarina Prison is about 30 mins drive from Perth.
Visitor parking is available
A prison bus service runs from Kwinana Train Station on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing Kwinana Train Station at 3.45 pm and leaving Casuarina Prison at 5.30 pm. On weekends the service departs Kwinana Train Station at 1.00 pm and leaves Casuarina Prison at 2.45 pm and 4.00 pm. Refer to Transperth for more public transport options.
What to wear to visit
Show moreWhen you come for your visit you will have to make sure you've dressed appropriately.
- No revealing clothing
- No see-through clothing
- No ripped or torn clothing
- No gang colours or offensive logos
- No tight-fitting clothing or lycra
- No steel-capped boots
- No hi-visibility clothing
- No headwear
- No smartwatches
- No swimwear
- No excessive jewellery
Visitors to prison must wear underwear and footwear. Pants and skirts/dresses should be longer than mid-thigh. Exemptions for legitimate cultural, religious or medical reasons or at the discretion of the Security Manager. You will need to put your mobile phone, bags and personal items in a locker at your visit.
Anyone failing to comply with this dress standard will be denied entry into the prison and have their booked visit cancelled. Visitors will be held accountable for the clothing they have chosen to wear whilst visiting.

Sending money to prisoners
Show moreYou can send money to a prisoner by cash, eftpos, money transfer or cheque.
You can give cash or use the eftpos machine to the cashier office during your visit. The cashier is located next to the visitors centre. Please allow extra time during your visit to send money.
