Aquaculture 90-day project

Making it easier for aquaculture in Western Australia.

The Aquaculture 90-Day Regulatory Mapping and Reform Project was completed in October 2016. The project will enhance opportunities for economic development and employment through the development of aquaculture in regional and remote areas.

This project was completed in collaboration with government agencies, producers, aquaculture and fishing industry bodies, port authorities, regional development commissions, industry consultants, community groups, and industry research bodies. Direct consultation was undertaken in the Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern, South West and Mid West regions.

The project outcomes included:

  • A regulatory process maps to guide the approvals processes and outline the licencing requirements to establish and operate an aquaculture enterprise in Western Australia
  • Practical recommendations to streamline the licencing and approvals process, while retaining important environmental safeguards to protect industry, consumers, local communities, and enhance access to premium markets.
