Restaurant project

Making it easier to start a restaurant.

The Restaurants Regulatory Mapping Project was completed in December 2015. This project aimed to reduce the burden of regulatory requirements for starting a restaurant in Western Australia. Reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens allows the industry to respond more easily and at a lower cost to the growing demand for restaurants and provide more employment opportunities, which will add to the cultural vibrancy of the State, and make Western Australia a more attractive option for interstate and international tourists.

The project was completed in collaboration with government agencies, industry bodies and business owners that are involved in the restaurant business.

This project has delivered:

  • regulatory map to show the steps required to gain government approvals and move more easily through regulatory requirements when starting a restaurant
  • list of recommended actions to reduce the regulatory burden for new restaurant businesses in Western Australia. These actions are now being progressed by the relevant agencies
