Science and conservation in the Kimberley region

How we are protecting the nature of one of the world's last great wilderness areas, guaranteeing its future as an important conservation, tourism and cultural destination.

The Kimberley Science and Conservation Strategy aims to conserve the natural cultural values of the Kimberley and includes:

  • a marine science program
  • working with traditional owners
  • training and employment of Aboriginal rangers
  • providing links between conservation groups
  • establishing new marine parks
  • new terrestrial reserves
  • a conservation reserve corridor
  • upgraded visitor facilities
  • investment in nature based tourism
  • prescribed burns and much more
